      History

In 1975, when the Friends of Highgate Cemetery [FOHC] took over the operation of Highgate Cemetery, many of the monuments were in a state of decay. Several were listed by English Heritage and FOHC were able to apply for grant funding for some of this work. The largest and most prominent of the built features were gradually restored and new mausoleums and monuments have been constructed.
