      Description

This covers restoration and maintenance of the Cemetery landscape including any new changes to layout and plantings.

      History

When the Friends of Highgate Cemetery [FOHC] took over responsibility for the operation of the Cemetery, the grounds were in a state of decay. This included trees which had become dangerous and creepers, such as ivy, which often obscured sunken graves. A programme of surveys and works was begun to restore and maintain the landscape which continues to this day. The landscape is of primary importance as the backdrop to the built environment and monuments of the Cemetery.
